“Be A Witness To Christ The Light By Shining The Light!”
I mustered the courage to go and enjoy my village (home, sweet home) since Sunday. But the story is not worth writing home about. My village, like many others are deserted and lie in ruins. Sporadic gunshots mornings and evenings are routine occurences. Home no longer reflects the serenity it once offered. Darkness and gloom hovers over us but to some of us it is as if nothing is happening!
Uncertainty has become a way of life even in the midst of unwavering hope. Kidnappings here and there asking for heavy ransoms; indiscriminate killings of innocent souls and burning down of homes and villages. In the midst of all these, corruption seems to be on the rise as you see lists that have been composed for councillors of councils which are non functional! Names of people who are not known within the municipalities and even when known the people are displaced far away from their municipalities.
The story has not changed that Jesus Christ “the light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not overcome it…” Yet he alone is “the true light that gives light to every man…”(Jn.1:5-9).
Just as John the Baptist “came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe…” so too are we called as the visible presence of Christ to bear witness that Jesus Christ is the Light that shines in darkness! Jesus said we are the light of the world and that our llight should shine so that our good works will glorify the Father in heaven.
This means that where falsehood persist we must propagate truth. Where injustice prevails we must ensure that there is justice and equity for the suppressed, oppressed and marginalised. Where wickedness and evil is the order of the day, we must risk for righteousness to be restored! We must be the hope of the hopeless!
So therefore, be a light to yourself, your household, your community as one who calls on the name of Jesus Christ, the Light of the world!
Weekend prayer: Holy Spirit enable me to be a light to myself, my family and my community in thought, word and deed. Amen!
