“Be A Griot For The LORD Most High!”(Is.42:10-16).
The griots of parts of West Africa are travelling poets, musicians and storytellers who maintain a tradition of oral history. However, some unwittingly become praise singers.
When the rhythm changes the dance style changes as well. The past is important to the present because it is the past that has shaped the present.
We cannot be buried in the past! Those who live in their permanent houses may not move house to new environments, but they can always rearrange the furnitures in the rooms to give it a degree of newness.
When we become new creations in Christ we renovate the house and rearrange the furnitures. In the process we discard old disused goods(sin) that were hidden in dark corners.
In fact, we fill the little potholes of our old selves, bringing in the freshness that accompanies newness.
Freshness and newness necessitates new songs.
Through the prophet Isaiah the LORD assured the coming of the Christ through whom he declares new things after the former things have taken place (Cf. Is.42:1-9).
Therefore, we the beneficiaries of grace are commanded to “Sing to the LORD a new song, his praise from the ends of the earth…” The new song is not necessarily a song of victory. Rather it is a song of confidence in the blessed assurance of what the LORD is yet to do. The best is neither in the past nor in the present. The best is in the future! The best is yet to happen! Therefore, keep hope alive in the new song to the LORD! Yes, my friend! Be a griot for the LORD Most High!
