“A Burden Shared Is Comforting!”(II Cor.1:3-7).
I am not wearing your shoes, I cannot tell where you feel its pinch. You are not wearing my mine, you cannot know where I feel it’s pinch. But since I know the pain from my pinch, I can understand what you are experiencing.
Pain and suffering can be God’s megaphone shouting to us to return from a stray path. But to others pain and suffering may be the very reason to doubt the goodness of God. Others may not doubt his goodness, but they may begin to doubt his omnipotence.
It is difficult to understand why an all powerful God who is goodness incarnated can allow pain and suffering on his own children.
The crying question, “God where are you?” is being repeatedly asked by millions on a daily basis. Yet the answer is with us. We have the answer to that question. Those who raise the question stand in need of something that somebody can offer.
The response to that cry of desperation is LOVE! We need love, the world needs love. God has shown us what love is. Love can heal all our brokenness. Even when our frail bodies can no longer heal, love can help us not to sink in the pool of despondency.
God is “the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows…” We should be ready to be distressed for the comfort of others. When we share in sufferings, we equally share in their comfort.
It is like when we come together to form a company. We share the risk and when we make gains we also share together.
We belong to each other and if we are ready to bear one another’s burden, there won’t be any reason for anybody to ask, “God where are you?” Rather, we would have all the reasons to thank him that he is the comfort that we need. And as you have received, pass it on in the same measure and all burdens become lighter. We cannot share in someone’s sickness, but the comfort we offer can lighten the pain.
Prayer: LORD thank you for being my comfort through Jesus Christ. Help me to pass the same to those who need it. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
Rev Babila Fochang.
