“Keep The Mind Pure!”
We all wash our hands before meals even when we are to use spoons and forks. We do this because we do not want anything unclean to go into us.
Jesus however says ritual cleansing is less important compared to the content of the heart. Whatever you eat does not remain in the stomach, it comes out of the body.
“But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these makes a man ‘unclean.’ For out of the mouth come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, slander. These are what make a man ‘unclean’, but eating with unwashed hands does not make him ‘unclean’.”(Mtt.15:10-20).
Jesus was saying these because the Pharisees just like us insist on ritual cleansing rather than searching the inner-being which is what God is actually interested in.
Dear friend, what is essential is the need for you and I to keep the mind clean and acceptable to the Lord. When we shall appear before the throne of God his interest shall be about the true content of your soul and not whether you ate junk food without strict ritual observance!
Sunday prayer: Lord make me pure within. Let me put my effort on the content of my heart and not to concentrate on religious rituals. Amen!
Have a blessed Sunday! Peace be with you!
