“The Importance Of Effort!”(Lk.11:9-13).
Effort is defined as “the physical or mental energy used to achieve a result, or a serious attempt to do something.”
Nothing is achieved without effort. To ask or to seek or to knock is to emphasise the importance of making an effort. “Nothing ventured, nothing gained!” “A faint heart never won a fair lady!” “You can’t whistle without swelling your jaws.” All these figures of speech emphasise the centrality of effort.
The Lord Jesus Christ says: “So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.”
There is no achievement without effort.
Perpetual and persistent prayer induces God to give us what we ask, to make us find what we seek, and when we knock, the door is opened for us.
No doubt the LORD is the giver of all good things, but he is not coming to wake you up from slumber and say, “Hey, get up. This is for you!” Not at all! You have to make an effort!
We do not have to say it all over again that God gives us whatever we ask that aligns with his plans. God also works with an itinerary. To see an important personality, you have to book an appointment. When you get to the office, you have to wait at the reception until when you are ushered into the office of the Bigman. Your appointment is not the only appointment.
Imagine the population of the world that God has to attend to!
The Lord Jesus Christ says we should seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all other things will be ours.
Again he says, “you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”
This is to say the request, the search for the Holy Spirit should be a top priority in our perpetual persistent prayer.
When we are gifted with the Holy Spirit, we gain access to the rest of our expectations. The Holy Spirit is our Counsellor leading us into all God’s truth. The Holy Spirit guides us on the things of God.
Even so, we must make the effort to become! Therefore, my friend, pray as if work does not matter and work as if prayer does not matter!
Prayer: Holy Spirit, indwell me and prompt me daily to make an effort to become. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
