“To Be Or Not To Be: The Choice Is Yours!(Lk.11:14-26).
Jesus had just exorcised a demon out of somebody. Even though the crowd was amazed, some said he was driving out demons by Beelzebul, the prince of demons. Others tested him asking for a sign from heaven.
Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said to them: “Any kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and a house divided against itself will fall…”
He told them Satan may be a strong man, but he Jesus has come as a stronger man. He Jesus incarnates the presence of the kingdom of God. With the presence of Jesus in the world, there is no question of being neutral.
In his words, “Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.” Yes, you are either with Christ or with the antichrist! There is no viamedia way!
Conversion is not just about turning to God. Conversion is about replacing whatever it was with Christ. The missionary conference of 1910 that was held in Edinburgh laid emphasis on conversion as replacement. The missionaries to Africa were told not to take anything from the convert without replacement.
A lot that passes for conversion in African Christianity is heresy. Christianity without Christ is heretical! Whatever is given up, if not fully replaced with Christ, is syncretic heresy!
Being new creations in Christ is not just about abandoning old beliefs, it is about elevating Christ to fill the heart so that whatever evil spirit that was taken out does not come with seven other spirits into an empty house and make your final condition worst than it was.
The different versions of Christianity within the African continent sometimes are a reflection of different versions of Christ. Today, the emphasis is on megagrowth at the expense of Christocentric faith. No doubt John advises: “Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God because many false prophets have gone out into the world.”
John goes further to tell us how we can recognise the Spirit of God: “Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which…is already in the world.” When we are from God, we become overcomers because the one who is in us is greater than the antichrist who is in the world(I Jn.4:1-6).
Dear friend, may we seek daily to know Christ more and more and the power of his resurrection! May we daily seek the Holy Spirit who will protect us against the snares of the antichrist and fill us with Christ!
Sunday prayer: Holy Spirit, protect us against the snares of the antichrist and let Christ be the centre of our lives in our thoughts, words, and deeds. Amen!
Have a blessed Sunday! Peace be with you! Happy women’s day to all the women in this family of the chosen!
