“Truth That Angers!”(Jn.8:46-59).
“Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don’t you believe me? Whoever belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God. “
This was a grave indictment of those who, in their hearts and lifestyle, portrayed that by virtue of who they were, they knew everything about God and of God. Jesus touched a soft spot in their lives that exposed their hypocrisy. Their best defence was to say that Jesus was a Samaritan and was demon-possessed. When confronted with incontestable truth, the only defence is insults!
However, Jesus made them know that those who are assisted by demonic forces to articulate their faith are self-glorifiers. All glory belongs to the LORD, who is also the ultimate judge. The unseen God has revealed himself in Jesus Christ. Therefore, whoever obeys the word of Jesus will never see death.
Myopic faith is limited in the physical. Myopic faith is not able to know that even the patriarch, Abraham, rejoiced at the thought of seeing Jesus’ day. He saw it and was glad.
Then they said to him, “You are not fifty years old, and you have seen Abraham!” Jesus shocked them with the “ergo emi” word that was considered blasphemous. Jesus answered, “Verily truly I tell you, before Abraham was, I am!”
“I Am” is God’s name as he told Moses. It became the sacred name of God, the Tetragrammaton “YHWH.” LORD was used in place of this sacred name, yet Jesus kept saying “I am,” etc! Little wonder that “at this, they picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus hid himself, slipping away from the temple grounds.”
“What will be will be, but it must be at God’s time. Otherwise, isn’t it funny that Jesus hid himself?
My friend, after all has been said, it is all about the Christ soon to be killed for your sake and mine. What is in it for us is to obey his word so that we will never taste the second death.
Obedience to the Lord Jesus Christ entails courage and boldness to confront the uncompromising status quo of skin deep comfortable Christianity! Obedience comes with a price! The price is the readiness to face the wrath of those whose comfort zones are threatened by the truth of Christ’s revelation.
Weekend prayer: Holy Spirit, prompt us daily to obey the Lord Jesus Christ in word and deed. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
