“God Of Good And Bad Times!”(Job 2:1-13).
Satan would not admit that he had failed. He told God: “A man will give all he has for his own life. But now stretch out your hand and strike his flesh and bones, and he will surely curse you to your face.” God gave Satan the go-ahead to do as he pleased with Job, still with the warning that Satan must spare Job’s life.
Satan afflicted Job with painful sores from the soles of his feet to the crown of his head…”
A man can bear all these if he has a darling partner by his side. It wasn’t the case with Job. Satan had bought over his wife. Job’s wife said, “Are you still maintaining your integrity? Curse God and die!”
Job’s response to his wife is what should guide us when calamity and disaster befalls: “You are talking like a foolish woman. Shall we accept good from God and not trouble?” The answer is an emphatic “No!” God is a God of good times as well as bad times. Arthur Ashe was a star American tennis champion who had won many trophies. Ashe moved in high circles. He was diagnosed with HIV and he eventually had AIDS. While on his sick bed, he co-authored his memoir titled “Days of Grace.” Ashe wrote that when he brought home many trophies and dined with high society, he did not ask, “LORD why me?” Now that he had AIDS he had no reason to ask, “LORD, why me?”
Like Ashe, we are living in days of grace. We should learn to submit to bad times in the same way that we submit to good times. God is always right and faithful!
We are told that “In all this, Job did not sin in what he said.” Even God acknowledged after the first test that Job still maintained his integrity.
My friend, in everything give thanks for it is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases, and his mercies never come to an end. They are new every morning and great is his faithfulness.
Whatever it is that Satan has incited the LORD against you for will come to pass, and whatever has been taken away from you will be restored manifold. Remain faithful!
Prayer: Holy Spirit, endow me with the resilience to overcome the wiles of Satan. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
