“It’s Ok! “You can’t wait until life isn’t hard anymore before you decide to be happy!”Nightbirde on AGT.
Maybe like Job, we can all pretend to cope with the calamity of losing everything we have worked for. Our estates, our ranches, and our cattle all gone in one day! Even so, with four servants and a wife left, one can start all over from scratch and still make it again. Besides, as a wealthy man, Job was probably living in a mansion. If he sold it, he could invest the money and rise again economically.
What can be difficult to bear is to lose your beloved children – seven sons and three daughters – in one day!
Let us muster the courage to question God’s involvement in the killing of these children. Two of the causes of destruction were natural: the lightning that burned the sheep and servants, and the tornado that collapsed the house and killed Job’s children. Even if we agree that God does not tempt anybody, as James says, yet it was God who told Satan, “Everything he has is in your hands…” According to Satan, “everything he has” included Job’s children.
Each head stands on its own neck. Why should children be used as guinea pigs in a testing game in the spiritual realm? These were grown-up adults who were responsible for their actions.
Humanity always pay the price in the battle and fun time of the gods. Or, as Alan Wilson Watts once said, “Humanity suffers only because we take seriously what the gods made for fun.”
These children were also created in the image of God. They did not deserve to die just because God wanted to prove to Satan that Job was a righteous man who feared God and shunned evil!
But who am I to question the decision of the Sovereign LORD!
The story is about Job. Job proved Satan wrong. When he heard of the death of his children, he “got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship and said, ‘Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; May the name of the LORD be praised.’ In all this, Job did not sin by charging God with wrongdoing.”
My friend, this is where Job makes a difference. I just charged God with wrongdoing for killing Job’s children! But Job did not! It is not as if Job did not consider it. It is just that a righteous man who fears God and shuns evil know that God is always right!
My friend, everything God does in your life is for a purpose. God-fearing righteous and good people suffer, not for any fault of theirs. Meanwhile, wicked people thrive and prosper geometrically. God knows why! Hold on to your faith!
Prayer: Holy Spirit, help me to take the prayer of Job after his misfortunes and make it mine. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
