“Training Children In The Fear Of The LORD!”(Job 1:1-5).
Job was a blameless and upright man. He feared God and shunned evil. Wisdom says, “Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old, he will not depart from it.”(Prv.22:6). We expect any disciplined person such as Job to bring up God-fearing children like himself.
Far from that, he made it a regular custom to sacrifice a burnt offering for each of the children after each period of feasting. Why did he keep thinking that during their feasting, the children may have sinned and cursed God in their hearts?
God prefers obedience to sacrifice. We should bring our children in the fear of the LORD instead of sacrificing burnt offerings on their behalf.
It is better to restrain the children not to organise parties where merriment can cause them to sin and curse God.
Making it a regular custom to appease God because of “perhaps…” can motivate the children to engage in actions that dishonour God. They may say, “Let’s do whatever we want. After all, our father will make sacrifices to purify us!”
It is better to warn them against sinful acts than to make it a regular custom to offer sacrifices of purification after.
Prayer of the day and week: Holy Spirit, help us to bring up our children in the fear of the LORD rather than offering sacrifices to cleanse them from sin. Amen!
Welcome back to a new working day and week! Have a blessed working day and week!
