“Which Kind Of Seed Are You? “(Mt.13:1-9&18-23).
Farmers have traditionally chosen a piece of land, prepare the land, and carefully sow or scatter the seeds. So I used to wonder which kind of sower was it in the parable of the sower who carelessly scattered his seeds just everywhere instead of on a preselected prepared piece of land.
Recently, I have learned that the sower in the parable of the sower was a strategic planner.
Instincts are often deceptive. Therefore, it becomes difficult to be certain that a piece of land will be more fertile than another.
The sower who sows everywhere may be a risk bearer, but he has a fairer chance of a better harvest than the sower on a selected spot.
The sower finally hit the jackpot as some seeds fell on good soil, where it produced a crop-a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.”
This is one parable that Jesus later interpreted to his disciples as he is interpreting to us today:
“Listen then to what the parable of the sower means: When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in their heart. This is the seed sown along the path. The seed falling on rocky ground refers to someone who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. The seed falling among the thorns refers to someone who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, making it unfruitful. But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears the word and understands it. This is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.”
Interestingly, Jesus ended the parable by saying, “Whoever has ears, let him hear.”
So my friend, have you heard? Even if you have heard, what have you done about It?
May the Holy Spirit inspire us to be the seeds fall on fertile soil. Amen!
Have a blessed Sunday! Peace be with you!
