“Wisdom: Something Better Than Weapons Of War!”(Eccl.9:13-18).
We are blessed to see a new dawn. Dear God, to you be the glory, might, and power forever more.
Albert Vermon Hudson is said to be the author of the song, “Who is fooling who?” The song is about a man reflecting on his cheating wife that each time she sneaked out to frolick with another man, he too was receiving and having a good time with another woman. Hence the question, “Who is fooling who?”
The story is told of a village farmer whose crops were not doing well due to lack of water. He bought a well from a wealthy but crooked landowner. A few days later, as he went to pull water from the well, the landowner blocked his way and told him, “I sold the well to you, not the water.” The poor farmer was at a loss. He took the matter to a judge. After listening to the case, the judge told the landowner, “Since you have sold the well, you have no right to keep your water in the well. Remove your water.”
Some years back, I paid a well digger to sink a well for me. I was in a different town. The well digger eventually showed me a picture of a dugged well with water inside. I paid him. A few weeks later, I visited the place, and to my shock, there was no drop of water inside the well. A neighbour told me that the welldigger drew water from another well, put it inside the well, snapped it, and sent it to me.
The man and woman in Hudson’s song, the crooked landowner, as well as the well digger, may be considered wise as they tried to hoodwink others. Sadly though, the above mentioned is a mirror to the rotteness of our Cameroon.
The truth is that wisdom is never geared towards deception; otherwise, it can’t be said that “the fear of LORD is the beginning of wisdom.”
Wisdom is gained through the constant search and yearning for God. As the psalmist puts it, “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God. My soul thirst for God, the living God…”(Ps.42:1-2).
One of my mentors said that when we train people without fear of God, we are only grooming intelligent thieves. And this is the crossroads where we find ourselves.
At this crucial point of our history, we are wondering whether the problem is the shout of the ruler or the fools he rules over! So, who is fooling who?
Cameroonians, it is time we genuinely seek God so as to gain wisdom! These days, we see images and read of peace crusaders who talk so much of preempting peace as if they have already set the stage for war. Today, we are reminded that, “Wisdom is better than weapons of war, but one sinner destroys much good.” Pray that you should not be that one sinner who will destroy much good.
Wisdom is about knowing Christ and his righteousness and justice that assures peace. Whatever is achievable by might or power is temporary. It is only through the wisdom from God that we find appreciable permanence and tranquillity.
Prayer of the day and week: Holy Spirit, open our understanding to know that wisdom is better than strength. Amen!
Welcome to a new working day and week! Have a blessed day and week!
