“Worship God In Spirit And Truth!”(Jn.4:19-26).
During his earthly life Jesus broke all religious protocols. He even engaged a profound theological reflection on the nature of God and true worship with a woman. Not even a woman who commanded respect within her community, but a woman who had had five husbands and was presently living in concubinage! But she was a woman who knew her beliefs; though partially.
That notwithstanding, for the purpose of this meditation our focus is on these verses:“Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshippers the Father seeks. God is Spirit, and his worshippers must worship in spirit and truth. The woman said,“I know that the Messiah is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.” Then Jesus declared,‘I who speak to you am he.'”
The emphasis is not about where we worship, it is about whether we know the God we worship and accord him the right worship.
True worship begins with knowing who God is and worshipping him in spirit and truth. He is not found in specific places. That is why we pray at home, in church, office, farm and just anywhere, anytime!
The Samaritan woman was talking with the Messiah, yet talking about his expected arrival. She did not know the Christ. There can be no true worship if we do not know the Christ.
Therefore, seek to know Christ more and more and the power of his resurrection. And then accord to the Godhead worship and prayer in spirit and truth; for God is Spirit.
Prayer:“God is always near me, hearing what I say, knowing all my thoughts and deeds, all my work and play…” Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
