“Thank You Lord Jesus Christ…!”
In African traditional religion, sacrifices for the atonement of sin is regular in the same way that obtained in Judaism. The priests being mortals lack permanence.
The high priesthood of Jesus Christ is different in that he lives forever. Jesus incarnates perfection and permanence, something that was lacking in the old priesthood.
Within the continent there is a constant move from one denomination to the other, from one religion to the other in the search of meaning and perfection. Some times these movements are international. There is that yearning in man’s soul which causes him to be restless until it finds rest in God. It is ignorance which precipitates such movements because we search for perfection in the ministers of the gospel (priests) who are themselves naturally imperfect beings.
There is just one high priest who personifies perfection and permanence! He is Jesus Christ. He is not just a high priest, but he became the sacrificial animal. He sacrificed himself for our sins “once for all when he offered himself.”
Jesus Christ alone “is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.”
Most of all is that he meets our needs because he is “holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens”(Heb.7:23-28).
When we know these truths, we would submit to Jesus wherever we are in the confidence that he is everywhere. He is our burden carrier as his blood has washed us from sin. And he is our great intercessor because he is an eternal high priest unlike any other!
Weekend prayer: Thank you Lord Jesus Christ; you bore my sins and you constantly intercede to the Father on my behalf. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
