“Lord Jesus Christ Fill Me With The Holy Spirit!”
The World Missionary Conference of Edinburgh, 1910 advised missionaries to Africa not to take anything away from the “savage” without replacing it. In his time Bishop Ajayi Crowther told African priests not to stop the people’s cultural and religious practices without offering any replacements.
It is easy to tell people to stop this or that cultural or religious practice. They do stop for a while, but when there is no alternative, they look for ways of bringing in or resorting to their old practices which gave them meaning.
This is what breeds double-face Christians within the continent. Double-face Christians see their “Papa” or “Baba” as people solving the same human oredicaments. They easily move from one to the other without seeing it as idolatory.
Replacement is very essential in the conversion process. We thank God for deliverance ministries. We give glory to God when we watch how tele-evangelists exorcise or cast out demons from those who have been in their bondage. However, what we watch often end at the level of exorcism without commensurate follow-up with any replacement.
It is not enough to say, “You are now safe, go in peace.” This can only be temporary!
Jesus told the exorcists of his day who boasted in their exorcism that it was not enough to cast out an evil spirit from a person. “When an evil spirit comes out of a man, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order. Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of the man is worst than the first…”(Mt.12:43-45).
Take note that the demons and evil spirits are always roaming. They may be sent out of a person, but they are not destroyed.
When we pray for any evil spirit to leave us, we must pray fervently for the Holy Spirit to come and permanently fill the vaccant home so that our conditions do not become worst than before!
Prayer: Holy Spirit possess my life fully so that any evil spirit cannot find a comfortable home in my life. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
