“God Still Loves You!”
Our people say when a mother berates a child, she pushes him under the bed. She does not send the child outside where the child may run into uncontrollable danger. It is also said that your finger cannot intentionally pierce your eye.
God is pained by our rebellion, yet he never tires of wanting to save us. Like rebelious exiled Israel we rebel against God in our own ways. Yet, like in the days of old his compassion never ceases and his mercy endures forever.
God still sends his messengers saying, “I am sending you…to a rebellious natiin that has rebelled against me…” They are obstinate and stubborn, but the messenger must pass on the message “whether they listen or fail to listen – for they are a rebellious house – they will know that a prophet has been among them.” The message of repentance must be preached, but it is like seed that the sower scatters. “Some people are like seed along the path, where the word is sown. As soon as they hear it, Satan comes and takes away the word that was sown in them. Others, like seed sown on rocky place, hear the word and at once receive it with joy. But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away…Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop…”(Mk.4:1-20).
The messenger is like a sheep among wolves and can be intimidated and cowed to silence! So the charge is, “Do not be afraid of them or their words. Do not be afraid, though briers and thorns are all around you and you live among scorpions. Do not be afraid of what they say or terrified by them…You must speak my words to them, whether they listen or fail to listen, for they are rebellious”(Ez.2:1-7).
The word of God contains such bitter truths which people don’t want to hear because it deprives them of the evil that has become the world’s gospel! “For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account”(Heb.4:12-13).
Therefore my friend, “today if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts”(Heb.4:7c). Open your heart so that the abundant grace of God should abide with you through Jesus Christ!
Sunday prayer: Holy Spirit help me not to harden my heart when I hear God’s word. Amen!
Have a blessed Sunday! Peace be with you!
