“Use Medicine As A Complement To Divine Healing!”
The debate has often been raised as to whether belief in divine healing is compatible with scientific medical healing. Perhaps the argument is lopsided in that we reason that divine intervention must always be miraculous without the use of medicine.
Divine healing in the Bible does not necessarily exclude the use of plants with medicinal value.
A case in point is king Hezekiah’s healing. The king became ill to the point of death. Prophet Isaiah came to him and asked him to put his house in order because he was going to die. Hezekiah prayed to the Lord and wept bitterly. The Lord heard his prayer and decided to heal him and to add fifteen more years to his life.
Since the healing was a divine intervention, we would have expected the healing to be miraculously spontaneous. On the contrary the prophet asked that they should prepare a poultice of figs. “They did so and applied it to the boil, and he recovered” (II Kgs 20:1-7).
My friend, are you ill? Pray for divine intervention but also take the necessary medications that are known to cure the illness. Both complement each other in that medicine treats, but God heals.
Another lesson from the text is that whether God is going to prolong your life or not, it is good to put your house in order. Africans are culturally scared to talk about death. We don’t have to be scared! Make your will so that in case of sudden death you do not leave your family in confusion.
Prayer of the week: Lord hear my prayer, see my tears and answer my prayer. Amen!
Welcome back to a new working week. Have a blessed day and week! Peace be with you!
