“Wisdom Is Calling: Respond To The Call!”
A popularly memorized verse of Scripture, though often quoted in half is “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom…” The other half though as important is often left out, “…and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding” (Prv.9:10).
To fear God is often misconstrued to mean being afraid or scared. One does not fear the biological father in that sense.
The book of Proverbs “provides instruction on how to live wisely and successfully in the “fear of the Lord” (Cf. Prv.1:7&9:10). The fear of the Lord in this sense includes, “reverence for, trust in and commitment to the Lord and his will” which is disclosed in his creation and is revealed in his word. Again, “To fear the the Lord is to hate evil” (Prv. 8:13). Understood this way wisdom would mean following the kind design of God for human happiness. The result is to understand words of insight and to acquire “a disciplined and prudent life, doing what is right and just and fair” (Prv.1:2-3).
Wisdom is personified and stands for Jesus Christ. Wisdom was the first of God’s works, appointed from eternity, from the beginning, before the world began…”(8:22-23). Paul reiterates this that Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God (Cf. I Cor.1:24).
My friend, wisdom (Christ) is calling, “leave your simple ways and you will live; walk in the way of understanding”(Prv.9:1-10).
God is never tired of calling because he knows that we are fond of going after enticing distractions. The outpouring of God’s abundant grace upon us demonstrates that he is patiently waiting; ready with open arms to say, “my child, once again, welcome!” Return to the Lord by doing good and hating evil!
Prayer of the week: Holy Spirit as I go through this week lead me in the path of reverential fear of the Lord by doing good and hating evil. Amen!
Have a blessed day and week! Peace be with you!
