“Obey Jesus As He Obeyed The Father!”
“During the last days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. Although he was a son, he learned obedience from what he suffered and once he was made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him…”(Heb.5:7-9). What powerful words about Jesus! He was human, he felt pain, he would have loved to live to a ripe old age like we all wish to, but he chose the path of obedience unto death.
At that very crucial but decisive moment of his life at Gethsemane he prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.” “My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done”(Cf. Mtt.26: 36-46).
humankind. And truly the Father took away the cup of suffering, but not in the way we would have expected. He allowed him to die, then to be raised from death.
Imagine at that last hour at Golgota Jesus “cried out in a loud voice,…’My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?'”(Mtt.27:46). In his humanity he asked that the cup be taken away but he was bent on obeying his Father’s will to die for human kind. He was determined to obey which included his death for humanity.
He too like us felt abandonment but he knew that whatever is in God’s plan has a happy ending.
By obedience even unto death, “he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him.” Are you in the number?
Weekend prayer: Lord teach me to obey you as you obeyed your father even on to death so that your will may be done in my life. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
