“May The Blood Of Christ Purify Your Conscience!”
Do you want to see a clean person? Visit the person at home; don’t only admire the beautiful attires and make-ups as you see the person in public.
A popular mungaka expresssion says, “Boñ mandzi, mbù ndab.”, meaning looking good in public but being filthy at home.
Worst still is evaluating a person outwardly ignoring who the person truly is internally.
Sometimes you hear expressions like, “I know X very well…!” That’s a deception. The JoHari window experiment demonstrates that what we know about each person is that area which each person prefers to present to the public. To some people the public area is high in percentage and to some the percentage is very minimal.
There is an area in each person’s life known only by the individual and God. There is an area known by both the public and the individual. But there is an area which only God knows; not even the individual. In all, our innerbeing as opposed to our outward self is better summarized that you cannot read the mind through the face.
Now in Jewish religion, just as it is in African Traditional religions, the blood of animals especially goats, sheep, fowls etc were used to purify “those who are ceremonially unclean to santify them so that they are outwardly clean”
Being “outwardly clean” does not change one from within and that’s why such ceremonial cleansing has to be repeated perhaps on a yearly basis.
This is where to those who believe, the sacrifice of Jesus Christ makes the difference. “…the blood of Christ who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God cleanses our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God.”
So “Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the eternal inheritance – now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from sins…”(Heb.9:11-15).
Take home lesson: The sacrifice of Christ cleanses us internally; in other words, “cleanses our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God.”
Yes, Jesus said when he is lifted up from the earth he will draw all people unto him(Jn 12:32).
This is made possible when we believe in him, work hard to be as good as he was doing things with clean and pure consciences void of flattery and camouflage. By this, what we become externally will be an overflow of what we are internally.
Sunday prayer: Holy Spirit cleanse my conscience so that by the blood of Christ I can serve the living God through service to humanity in truth of heart. Amen!
Have a blessed Sunday! Peace be with you!
