“You Are Only A Tool In God’s Hands!”
Desmond Tutu’s assertion that “God is not a Christian” sounds like heresy to Christian fanatics. This is probably because without exception all religions define God only within the limited scope of their formulated beliefs. As such, each religion expects God to act only within the scope of their definitions and this means acting positively for them and against those who do not belong. Call it “religion of exclusion!”
However, God is more than any definitive scope, even as we acknowledge in song, “you are bigger than what people say…”
Imagine God calling Cyrus a heathen “his anointed” – messiah!
Of Cyrus God said, “I will go before you and will level mountains…I will give you the treasures of darkness, riches stored in secret places, so that you may know that I am the Lord, the God of Israel…For the sake of Jacob my servant…I summon you by name and bestow on you a title of honour, though you do not acknowledge me. I am the Lord, and there is no other; apart from me there is no God. I will strengthen you…so that from the rising of the sun to the place of its setting men may know there is none besides me. I am the Lord, and there is no other…”(Is.45:1-8).
Lessons drawn:
- There is only one God in the whole wide world.
- God is not limited to act only within the narrow confines of a particular group.
- He uses whoever he so desires to execute his mission of salvation, whether the one acknowledges him or not..
- He remains who he is whether we acknowledge him or not.
- Lastly, when salvation comes, righteousness must grow within it.
On the overall Cyrus was a prototype of Christ destined to save the chosen. To accomplish his mission through Jesus Christ today God can choose you too. Allow yourself to be an instrument for his accomplishment; but never forget that when chosen you are only a tool in God’s hands!
Prayer of the week: Heavenly Father, let me be a tool in your hand to accomplish your work of salvation in the service of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen!
Have a blessed day and week! Peace be with you!
