“Your Journey To Emmaus!”(Lk.24:13-35).
This period onwards to Ascension Day will concentrate on Christ’s post-appearances to the disciples at different times in different places.
Today, we read from Luke, who tells us how Jesus, the Christ, appeared to two disciples on their way to a village called Emmaus. The story says that after their encounter with Christ, they at once returned to Jerusalem, where they found the Eleven and those with them. This tells us that the two were not apostles – the Eleven excluding Judas Iscariot, who had already paid the price of being a traitor.
We are tempted to ask why these two disciples found such favour with the risen Lord to the extent that he accompanied them on their way to Emmaus and took time to explain that what happened to Jesus was in fulfilment of prophecy?
A journey to Emmaus is a journey of frustration, uncertainty, and a lack of understanding of the truth found in the Scriptures. The journey to Emmaus is a journey of lost hope!
However, all things work for the good of those who trust in the LORD and are called according to his purpose. The journey to Emmaus is a journey of a fruitful encounter with Christ. It is a journey where Christ himself reminds and sends us back to the Scriptures, where we learn that his death was in God’s plan for the good of all humanity. The journey to Emmaus reminds us that an encounter with Christ is not a privilege to be enjoyed by only the apostles but also by anyone who the Lord decides to reveal himself to. The LORD is not a respecter of persons!
My friend, do not underestimate yourself for who you are. The Lord can appear to you too until you will be the one to go to the apostles to tell them the good news of the Man who overpowered death and conquered the grave! Hallelujah!
What are your doubts, frustrations, and discouragement when you take a journey to Emmaus? Do not despair. The LORD has planned it that Christ will journey with you. He will enlighten you, and you will testify to having seen him face to face, chatting with him, and having a burning desire for God’s eternal truth as Christ speaks to you!
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, in times of uncertainty, doubt, and frustration, walk with me and reassure me of your living presence. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
