“With The Lord’s Presence We Shall Cross Our Jordan!”
Our reflection is a continuation of the crossing of the Jordan under the leadership of Joshua.
For them to cross the Jordan, their bridge was to consecrate themselves and for the priests carrying the ark of the covenant to step into the river first and remain there despite the threats of the rising mountain of water upstream in a season when the river was in flood.
“The priests who carried the ark of the covenant stood firm on dry ground in the middle of the Jordan, while all Israel passed by until the whole nation had completed the crossing on dry ground”(3:12-17).
We salute the efforts of those church ministers who have stood their grounds in terrains where the ongoing war has been devastating. Yesterday in my village the carnage was devastating. Survivors are in the bushes, houses set ablaze and souls lost. In the midst of all these, the ministers of God working in these places remain resolute. One of them told me, “We are the people’s last hope. If we go away and leave them in destitution how else can they be sure that there is a living God who can hold the Jordan for his children to cross to safety?”
It is the unwavering standing on firm ground in the Jordan by carriers of the ark of the covenant that gave courage to the rest of Israel to cross. It was an assurance that God was present with them and that he was the one leading and protecting them.
We too shall cross our Jordans of the present devastation and desolation. We just have to consecrate ourselves and the Lord will do the rest for us.
Weekend prayer: Father bless those servants who risk their lives to ensure that all the people escape danger and get to safety. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
