“With Christ The Storm Is Over!”(Jn. 1:5-9).
Once upon a time two friends met with a familiar blind man at midnight. One friend wondered how it was possible for the blind man to find his way in the night. The other friend asked him, “What difference does it make for him whether it is night or day?”
The friend who wondered how a blind man could cope with the night was as blind as the man who was physically blind. He was blind to the things of God and the realities of life. When you are deprived of one of your senses, the other senses become sharpened.
The Lord Jesus Christ told some Pharisees, “If you were blind you would not be guilty of sin; but now that you claim you can see, your guilt remains”(Jn.9:41).
Physical blindness is bad, but spiritual blindness is catastrophic. To a blind person light and darkness makes no difference. The same can be said of the spiritually blind.
John writes, “The light shines in darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
John the Baptist – like other prophets and messengers of the word – “came as a witness to testify concerning the light, so that through him all might believe.”
Unfortunately, “he came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God…”(Jn. 1:11-13).
Physically we can be in the brightest light, but we may still not see some things because of poor eyesight. We may see, but still be colourblind. Even so, a well lighted room still has some some dark recesses where the light does not penetrate and would need further illumination from a flashlight.
Jesus Christ the true light may still not penetrate hardened hearts, that is why we are constantly reminded: “Today if you hear God’s voice harden not your hearts.”
But on the overall, Jesus has come as THE LIGHT to a dark and dying world. Those who accept him stand above the vicissitudes of life, because once he is in your boat, he orders the storms and waves of your life: “Peace be still!”
Weekend prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, thank you for being the Light that overcomes the darkest darkness of our lives. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
