“While Waiting For Christ, Engage In Service That Produces Results!”(Mt.25:14-30).
The disciples came to Jesus privately, wanting to know the signs of endtime and when it was to happen. He told them to be ready for it because “no one knows about that day or hour,” including him the Son.
To make it clearer, he told them the parable of the five foolish virgins. They missed the company of the bridegroom because they did not carry extra kerosene for their lamps. The bridegroom came when they had gone to search for kerosene. When they returned, the door was already locked.
Today’s pericope is a further parable still about the consequences of not being spiritually prepared for the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.
A master was about to go on a journey. He called his servants and entrusted his property to them. He gave five, two, and one talent of money to his three servants, respectively. The first two invested their share and doubled the amounts. When the master returned, the first two presented their balance sheets, showing how they doubled their talents. They were commended for hard work.
But the third servant told the master that he buried the money because he knew his master loved reaping where he did not sow.
His master ordered that they should take the one talent and give it to the one who had ten. “For everyone who has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has, will be taken away from him.”
The master also ordered that they should throw the “worthless servant outside, into the darkness…”
This parable is not so much about encouraging a capitalist mindset where the rich get richer and the poor become poorer.
The main point of the parable is that preparing for the second coming of the Messiah is not a chair dance where you play safe by delaying near a chair. We do not just fold our hands and wait because we know we have made it. No! Waiting for the Messiah demands service that produces results.
“Those who seek spiritual gain in the gospel, for themselves and others, will become richer, and those who neglect or squander what is given them will become impoverished, losing even what they have.”
Dear friend, work for the night is coming when man works no more! Keep searching the Scriptures to gain spiritual knowledge for yourself and for the benefit of others.
It is only through Scriptures and the practice of it that we get to know Christ more and more and the power of his resurrection!
Sunday prayer: Holy Spirit, inspire me to multiply my talent through the Scriptures and service to others. Amen!
Have a blessed Sunday! Peace be with you!
