“When Truth Seems Like Nonsense!”
On this day the women got up “very early in the morning, took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb.” To their shock and dismay, “they found the stone rolled away from the tomb” and the body of the Lord Jesus was not there.
As they were wondering two angels asked them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen!” They reminded the women how Jesus had said sinful men will crucify him “and on the third day be raised again.”
The women now remembered his words.
Our interest this morning is that when these women came back and told this to the apostles, “…they did not believe the women, because their words seemed like nonsense.”
Yes my friend, there is a time when truth seems like nonsense to those who would have welcomed it with jubilation. That of course does not make it falsehood. Truth is Truth!
It may be disputed and overshadowed by the distortions of those in positions of strength; financial and otherwise!
But someday, it must be known because “Truth shall prevail!”
Though the words of the women were like nonsense to the apostles one of them nevertheless ran to the tomb and saw for himself that the tomb was empty and he wondered to himself what had happened(Lk.24:1-12).
The profound truth of the resurrection as told by the women was unbelievable to the apostles because their words seemed as nonsense. But over time these very apostles staked their necks and even died for those very words, “He is not here; He has Risen!” Why? Because the words had eventually made sense to confirm that truth shall prevail, no matter how long it takes!
Yes my friend, “The Lord is Risen! He is Risen Indeed!”
So what? Yesterday we asked that we should bury our sins in the tomb with Jesus so that today we may rise with Christ in a new life.
Paul says, now that “you have been raised with Christ… Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things…put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature…” and he lists a catalogue of vices we must do away with to become new creations!(Col.3:1-11).
We should turn away from earthly things and be steadfast in the Lord for he is the one who vindicates so that truth which seems like nonsense would become sense and be a testimony to spread the word of God!
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ through your resurrection help me to believe the truth that seems like nonsense to me. Amen!
Happy Easter! “The Lord is Risen…!”
