“What Do You Find In The Scriptures?”
Last evening as we gathered to light the Christmas tree at the Synod office compound our chaplain told us that a candle loses nothing by lighting (an)other candles. More than this a candle burns itself to extinction just to produce light that benefits others and not self.
Executors of premeditated crimes often come up with “cast-iron alibis” to fool the public. By this they think that their plan is foolproof. Unfortunately human witness cannot provide any cast-iron alibi that can stand the test of time. Any false witness is bound to crash under the cross-examination of an expert lawyer.
The evidence whether a candle was lit or not is not so much because somebody witnessed it being lit. The evidence is in the remains of the melted wax.
Human testimony is full of hypocrisy because we can buy people to provide cast-iron alibis for us.The only person who can testify to who we truly are, or what we are is God!
True testimony is through the works which we do because God has directed us to do them.
Jesus keeps challenging us who search the scriptures everyday. He says, “You diligently study the Scriptures because you think by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me.”
Yes, have you found the light? Why do you light the Christmas tree? As you light a Christmas tree as a symbolism for Jesus as the light of the world is everybody around you rejoicing that you yourself is symbolic of the light? Do people feel the presence of Christ-the-light through you? Have you like John been “A lamp that burned and gave light…?”*Jn. 5:31-40).
Yesterday I received a letter from a youngman who has been languishing in prison for months. He was asking me to rescue him from unjust torture, inhumane treatment and incaceration. According to the letter he is suffering for a crime he did not commit even in his dreams! There are thousands of such prisoners without crimes languishing in our jails!
To come to Jesus to have life is to put a smile on those captives otherwise what are we looking for in the Scriptures!
When I think of all the homeless people, I can’t even tell to you “Happy Christmas;” because I don’t know what is happy about it!
Dear friend, the only way you can show that you bear testimony to Christ is to do what he came to do: set the captives free, break the chains of injustice and help those who by no fault of theirs lack daily bread!
May God bless you as you do any of these things as a testimony of who Jesus Christ is! Peace be with you!
