“What Are You, A Wise Or Foolish Builder?”(Mt.7:24-27).
For this new day, we thank you, LORD.
The Lord Jesus Christ explains a wise persons as everyone who hears his words and puts them into practice.
This brief pericope of our text is the conclusion of what, according to Matthew, is called : “The sermon on the Mount;” and according to Luke, “The sermon in the Valley.” Whether it was preached on a Mount or down the valley, it is meant for us.
The pericope begins with, “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine…” directly referring to “The Sermon on the Mount” from chapter five up to this pericope.
These long teachings include the Beatitudes and the following topics.
Disciples are the light of the world who have to shine their light so that others may see their good deeds and praise the Father in heaven.
Jesus has come to fulfil the law. Whoever practices and teaches the commands of the Lord will be called great in the kingdom of God.
On murder, anyone who calls another “empty head” or “you fool” or is angry with another person is a candidate for hell.
A new definition of adultery: lustfully looking at a wo/man is adultery.
While the old law enjoined people not to break an oath, Jesus teaches that swearing by anything is not necessary.
The old law of “an eye for an eye” is substituted for nonresistance and turning the other cheek.
Love should transcend boundaries to those who hate you. Pray for them.
Giving to the needy does not require public display. Prayer should be a private matter between God and the individual; not a public drama.
Fasting is not to look sombre but to keep a bright face so that it is not obvious to others that you are fasting.
We have to ensure that the light in us is not darkness. We cannot serve both God and Money.
We should not fret ourselves about tomorrow because we do not control it. “Each day has enough problems of its own.” Rather, we should seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all other things shall be added.
We should not judge others. The measure we use, it will be measured to us. We should ask, seek, and knock.
We should run away from the broad highway of sin and enter through the narrow gate.
We should make our hearts good so as to produce goodness. As trees, by our fruits, we are known.
Conclusively, we are either wise or foolish builders.
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
Which kind of builder are you? We note, however, that the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ extends beyond the Sermon on the Mount.
Prayer: Holy Spirit prod us daily to put the words of the Lord into practice. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
