“We Praise You God Of Compassion And Comfort!”
At a time like this it may look like nonsense to praise God. Some may ssk, “Why should we praise him when we are all quarantined?” It is even made worst that they keep reminding us that one of they ways to keep safe is to constantly wash your hands with “running or flowing water.” This would mean the use of taps or streams, both of which are in short supply. In most towns the taps are not flowing, worst still good springs, rivers and streams are highly polutted. How safe are we so that we praise God as Paul precribes?
The context is comforting and even more needed in our predicaments. Paul writes, “Praise be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows. If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation, if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer. And our hope for you is firm, because we know that just as you share in our sufferings, so also you share in our comfort”(II Cor.1:3-7).
My friends, that fact that rain blocks you somewhere and you do not have an umbrella doesn’t mean rain is bad. God has not promised us an easy life, but he is a God of compassion who comforts us when the tides seems to flow against us.
He is our anchor in a large ocean, but most of all he is our best friend in the worst of times.
Comfort has to overflow from one person to the other because even a pandemic can not create pandemonium in everybody at the same time.
Like paul I say it with strong conviction from the Lord that “our hope for you is firm” in the face of Corona virus and the already long uncertainty in the English regions of Cameroon.
Nothing lasts forever, not even diseases and wars!
Prayer: God of compassion and comfort, thank you for your comfort. Show us your compassion by taking away this Corona virus scare from us. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
