“Wash Your Bloodstained Hands Before Spreading It Out In Prayer!”
My village is seemingly ghosted. Houses by the roadsides are either burned down or the walls and roofs are shattered with bullets. Sometimes you wonder why a beatifully constructed house had to be shot at if not for envy and outright hatred!
There is a sense of abandonment everywhere; with the exceptions of the few remnants who have braved it. When you ask, “Why have you not left like the others?” In the majority the answer is “Where do I go to?”
They have learned when to stay put, when to run into the house and when to run to the bushes and farms. Farm houses are becoming more of permanent homes. This is the picture as I see it in my village.
Ironically, in the face of this kind of situation new sects and mushroom churches have sprouted here and there. Meanwhile the mainline churches are also thriving. On sundays all of them are full. Financial obligations are met forth with. People crisscross to one church or the other depending on whether one needed a prophecy or some kind of miracle.
According to stories as I’m told, in some of those places one has to pay a consultation fee of 2000frs each. In most cases whole families are asked to come, yet consultation fee is per person.
During prayer sessions prsyers are made until one thinks heaven will soon merge with earth.
The story is similar in other villages. This is how christian we are in the regions of our births! Yet four years and counting there is bloodbath funded by people who are regular in churches on sundays and pay heavy tithes and offerings to their congregations. They are either in the country or abroad.
The decisions for the perpetuation of these carnages are made by bigwigs who hold sway both in society (as in government and shadow cabinets) and in the churches.
To crown it all, we the clergy are there praying for peace, yet having taken a stance in our hearts which cannot in any way usher peace! We too are at war with each other and the Christians are always taking sides supporting and dieing for either denominations or the direction that will benefit them materially!
The prayer which is trending is that you should thank God for being alive. Your being alive is the true indication of God’s love. You believe it because truly you are alive.
We are alive but dead spiritually! We are alive but live in fear and uncertainty!
In the obfuscated imaginings of the revelations given to us by self-centred manipulating servants of God we claim that God is on our side; that he is hearing our prayers
Then the Lord says, “…Stop bringing meaningless offerings… They have become a burden to me…When you spread out your hands in prayer, I will hide my eyes from you; even if you offer many prayers I will not listen. Your hands are full of blood; wash and make yourselves clean. Take away your evil deeds out of my sight! Stop doing wrong, learn to do right! Seek justice, encourage the oppressed, defend the cause of the fatherless, plead the case of the widow” (Is.1:10-17).
Yes my people, this is what God wants! Anything short of this we are on our own because God is not pleased with bloodstained hands and corrupt hearts.
Prayer: Holy Spirit help me that I should stop doing wrong and learn to do right. Amen!
