“Walk In The Light Of The Lord!”
I once heard a story of an adult who at his baptism told the pastor, “Pastor, do not let the baptism affect my hands for I will use them to kill my enemies.” Evil in intention as it may sound, we may not be different from that man. He was honest to say what was within him, unlike most others who do not, yet as baptized converts do the same evils.
John, a close aide of Jesus Christ recounts the message he heard from the Lord, that: “God is light, in him there is no darkness at all.” Whoever claims fellowship with him yet walks in the darkness is a liar and does not live by the truth.
But those who walk in the light as God is light “have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son purifies them from all sin.”
When you look within self, what honest conclusions do you draw for yourself as to whether you are in the light or in darkness? Fellowship with one another is the proof that we are in the light. And that is when the blood of Christ actually purifies us from all sin.
Some may contend that as menbers of the body of Christ we are already in the light. So the Father through the blood of his Son has already purified us from all our sins. This means that we do not need the constant prayer for the forgiveness of sins. Such was the position of the gnostics during the early beginnings of the church. They denied that their immoral actions were sinful.
John’s words were addressed to them as they address us today: “If we claim to be withoutt sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives”(I Jn.1:5-10).
My friend, “he that is in me is greater than he that is in the world” should not be an empty slogan. It should be that as the Christ in me increases, the ego, the self, the flesh and its attractions begins to dissipate. And then all that matters will be the desire to know him more and the power of his love. When you have known the power of his love that is when you receive spiritual eyes for spiritual discernment. By this you are in the light and now being in fellowship with others become the very reason for living. So therefore in our daily walk let us strive to arrive at this spiritual level so as to remain in the light.
Weekend prayer: Holy Spirit bring me to the light of God and keep me there in my thoughts, words and deeds. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
