“Wait For The Lord To Give The Command!”
When God shut Noah in the ark, he opened all the orifices of the earth and sky and released water for forty days and nights. The flood lasted for about five months (150 days), but everything was in his plan.
During this time Noah’s ark was a floating vessel without human control and without destination. It could have found itself in the wild seas or caught in a torrent in the rough oceans. It could have dashed against Mt. Cameroon or Mt. Kilimanjaro or even Mt. Everest, but it didn’t because God himself was the pilot and captain.
Finally the water receded steadily from the earth and the ark settled on the mountains of Ararat.
In God’s time it was not yet time to come out of the ark. The water may have receded but the earth was not yet habitable. Some may say Noah was patient but his henceforth actions reveal some impatience. We noted already that he was a righteous and obedient man but he had his flaws.
Forty days after, Noah opened the ark and sent out a raven that kept flying back and forth for lack of a place to settle. He then sent a dove who went and returned. Seven days later Noah was still itching to get out so he sent the dove again which finally returned with a freshly plucked olive leaf in its beak. Seven days later he sent the dove again and when it did not return he knew that “the earth was completely dry.” He did not have to do all that.
Before the flood the Lord told Noah, “Go into the ark…” When they were in he shut them in. When it was time, the Lord told Noah, “Come out of the ark, you and your wife and your sons and their wives…” The Lord did not tell him to come out because of Noah’s effort to know whether the water had receded. He asked him to come out because it was his “Kairos” time
You see my friend, in our generation the COVID-19 pandemic can be likened to the flood of Noah’s day. Staying indoors, wearing face masks and maintaining social distancing can be likened to our ark. But due to impatience we like Noah are itchy and want to be out when the flood has not yet subsided.
In life we should learn at all times to listen to what God says before doing it. Most of our worries and haste to do things takes us nowhere as long as it does not align with God’s plan.
Finally, when we are safe on dry ground it is important to offer a sacrifice that is pleasing to the Lord (Gen.8:1-20).
Prayer: Holy Spirit teach me to wait until the Lord commands me to action. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
