“Use Your Gift For The Common Good To The Glory Of God!”
Within the Church there are varieties of gifts distributed by the same Spirit to each person. There are also different kinds of services, but the same Lord. We also have different kinds of working, “but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.”
The problem in today’s faith communities is that we use the same measuring rod to evaluate the gifts, the services and the workings. It should not be so! God is a God of varieties. The Holy Spirit distributes the gifts according to our abilities, potentials and capabilities. Some may be multi-talented or multi-gifted, but such should not be used as measuring rod in evaluating others.
Sometimes we expect too much from others, expecting them to deliver what they have not been blessed with. We should rather take time to identify the gift of each person and for the appropriate service according the working of God in the person.
What is important is that “all these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines”(I Cor. 11:4-11). The various gifts are like the different parts of the body. Just imagine how uneasy you can become when you have good appetite to eat and drink anything without the other parts through which waste passes out of the body!
My friend, identify your gift, use it within the ambit of the necessary service trusting that it is the same God working in you. No matter the gift they are all intended for the general good. Any gift should be utilised for the benefit of all and to the glory of God!
Let no gift be undermined and let nobody boast of his/her gifts even when the one is blessed with more than one gift for many services!
Prayer: Holy Spirit humble me to use my gift for the common good to the glory of God. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
