“Trust And Believe In The Unusual Ways Of God!”
Sometimes the promise of good news is unbelievable. We often get accommodated to our circumstances – even when we have been praying that it should get better. At such when we are promised that things would turn around positively in a dramatic way we begin to doubt if it can happen.
Such was the experience of Zechariah when the angel promised him that he was to have a son in his old age. How could an old man with a wife well along in years be sure that they were to have a son who had to play a key role in salvation history? But that is who our God is. His ways are not our ways, and we must not make sense of what he intends to do before he does it.
If the angel had not told Zechariah what name to name the child, he would have named him something like, “Baninjoyo” – we are just observing, or “Mbebeb” – I’m only a caretaker, or “Andin” – who knows?, or even “Bohmbet” – mushroom from pheases, etc!
It is good to trust and believe in God always. His promises are sure. Never doubt the promises of God. Rather cling to his every word and it shall come to pass. Zechariah may have doubted the angel but that didn’t stop what God had planned to do. Zechariah returned home. His wife became pregnant. When she realised she was pregnant she made this statement which has been made by women of her condition over the generations: “The Lord has done this for me. In these days he has shown his favour and taken away my disgrace among our people”(Lk.1:18-225).
Indeed! In Elizabeth’s day just like in our day lack of children does not only deprive couples of personal happiness, it is considered as a divine disfavour attracting social reproach.
Few points to note:
Never doubt the promises of God. Learn to accompany God to make his miracle come true in your life. The miracle that brings forth a child happens in the bedroom. Whatever is bringing you public disgrace is temporary; God will take away your disgrace! With God it is never too late.
*Most important of all, you are a tool in God’s hands. God’s blessings are not for you, though you may receive honour through it. You are just a channel through which God wants to do great exploits for his children. Therefore, always allow yourself for God to use you the way he wants.
Prayer: Lord, I am just a tool in your hands. Let it be to me according to your word. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
