“To Collectively Enter God’s Rest, Encourage One Another Daily!”
Yesterday when the death of our colleague Rev. Wirku Genesis was published in one of our forums, a colleague wrote, “Sango Wirku. It’s a matter of time. We are coming.” For me this was prophetic, so I responded, “Prophetic! All of us will be there sooner or later! RIP servant of the Most High God!”
What is life after all? Is it as Macbeth concluded that “it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, yet signifying nothing?”
Far from Macbeth, the word of God assures us that life is full of meaning and significance. Scriptures reminds us, “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts” so that you will enter his rest. Life has meaning even in death because there is assurance of entering God’s rest. “Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us be careful that none of us be found to have fallen short of it.”
Those who hear his voice and harden their hearts will not enter his rest. Human life is communal more in the hereafter than it is here. We belong to one another. We have all entered the race in the spirit of “Ubuntu” or “Mun ni mun” so that we get to the finishing line together. Therefore, “see to it, brothers, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly till the end the confidence we had at first…”*(Heb.3:12-4:1).
Bottomline: We have a promised place of rest. We shall enter there if today we do not harden our hearts to God’s word. If we encourage one another daily, we shall all make it. We share in Christ if we hold firmly till the end the confidence we had at first.
Weekend prayer: Heavenly Father thank you for assuring us a place of rest through Jesus Christ. Teach me to encourage others daily and hold firmly till the end. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
