“The Word Becane Flesh…!”(Jn.1:14-18).
Religion is humanity’s yearning to be in the presence of the Divine. African ideas concerning the relationship between God and humanity is that at first God was very close to humanity. Oil making people consider that too much cooking of palmnuts caused smoke to disturb him so he left and went far above the skies. Those who eat pounding food say pounders used to raise the pestle high and kept hitting God till he withdrew up to the skies.
Since then humanity could not live without God. Their search for him led to idol worship as each person or group made God’s representation through different kinds of idols etc.
The Bible tells the same story in a reverse form. Humanity was in close fellowship with God until they disobeyed God. He expelled them from his presence. They attempted to reach him by constructing the tower of Babel, but failed.
However God has kept close watch over humanity through (s)election. Israel, the basket handle by which God lifts up the basket (all of humanity). Even so, Israel was a disappointment!
In the past God may have revealed his presence in different ways, but with the fullness of time he made the final revelation. John who was a close aide of Jesus Christ bore this testimony of God’s final revelation stating, “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory…”
But of what essence is his presence to us? John states, “From the fullness of his grace we have all received one blessing after another. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ .”
The law through Moses was not enough to save because it couldn’t save. If one is saved through the law, the one can boast and say, “I worked for it!” Far from that, it is “God’s grace that is sufficient for us.”
Jesus Christ in his humanity revealed the divinity which fallen humanity is searching for. He is the Word that became flesh and took his dwelling among us.
Our search for God ends when we find Jesus Christ. “No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the Father’s side, has made him known.”
Through the fullness of his grace we have all received one blessing after another – beginning with salvation from sin and continuing with God’s constant love, show of compassion and mercy as we journey in faith.
What this means is that as we walk through life we must know that the LORD is in this place! Being conscious of his constant presence requires a comportment deserving of his blessing.
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ thank you that from the fullness of your grace we have all received one blessing after another. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
