“The Omniscient, Omnipotent And Omnipresent God!”(Job 38:12-21).
There is this pun where the teacher picked an average student to answer the question, “When did the First World War start?” The student got up and responded, “I do not know. I was not yet born.”
These days, we rely so much on documented scripts and downplay orality. Yet, the script is far younger than oral documents.
If we ought to have been there before it can make sense, none of us will accept any story about the beginning of the world. In which case there won’t be any foundation on which our faith is built.
Oral literature remains the foundation of our faith. If Moses is the author of Genesis, he must have relied on oral literature – especially for the story of creation.
It is obvious that, like us, Job could not actually be coherent about the patterning of creation. The problem of Job just as it is our problem is claiming to know what we know nothing about – except through dreams, visions, and revelations.
Faith is believing without being an eyewitness. Faith is believing without questioning, not because it makes sense, but because instinctively, you feel it.
The creation story of Genesis ends by stating: “God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.” In that good was lightning, waves and storms, torrential rains that can cause flood. We name these few because they are, at times, dangerous to humanity.
Our God is a God in good times as well as bad times. When bad times happen to us, we shouldn’t question the goodness of God because we do not question his goodness in good times! That is why we have to be submissive in every circumstance.
Job was not as bad as his friends painted him. His only problem was darkening God’s counsel with words without knowledge. Job’s blessings increased abundantly when he confessed his ignorance and submitted.
Job’s last words: “I know that you can do all things; no plan of yours can be thwarted…Surely I spoke of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know…Therefore I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes”(42:1-6).
The Supremacy of the Sovereign LORD is in his omnipotence, omniscience, and omnipresence – the opposite of our impotence, ignorance, and limitedness in space and time.
Despite this, God, in his love, chose to reveal himself to us through his Son Jesus Christ. God in Christ does everything well for us. Believe it and you will know him more and more.
Prayer: Holy Spirit, help us daily to remain submissive and obedient to the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
