“The Lord Will Come To Give Us Rest!”
When it all started Jeremiah told his people not to rebel against Babylon for it was in the will of God. False prophets prevailed against him and won the day. The end result was that the people ended up in the Babylonian captivity.
In the early days of their captivity they sat by the rivers of Babylon and wept as they remembered Zion. They hung their harps on the poplars and their”tormentors demanded songs of joy; they said,’ ‘Sing us one of the songs of Zion.'” The captives wondered how they could sing the Lord’s song in a foreign land (Ps.137).
However, God never abandons his loved ones to the mercy of their enemies. God has a plan of restoration for the righteous remnant anywhere, anytime. “The people who survive the sword will find favour…”
Jeremiah remembered the days of old when God said, “I have loved you with an everlasting love. I will build you up again and you will be rebuilt…” Unlike in the those days by the rivers of Babylon where they sat and wept, this time around they will take up their tambourines and go out to dance with the joyful. Life will return to normal (Jer.31:2-7).
This message is for us too. All who are living in anglophone Cameroon and anglophone Cameroonians everywhere are in a kind of Babylonian captivity. But the message of restoration is for us too! There is hope of glorious days again when we shall sing for joy with the joyful. In that day we shall embrace each other as strangers who embrace when their favoured team has won a crucial match! The Lord will save his people who are called by his name! Peace will return to the land when we hunger for truth and justice!
Weekend prayer: Thank you Lord for the everlasting love that you have shown us. Save your people the remnant of this land. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
