“The Lord Jesus Christ Says, ‘Take Heart, It Is Well!'”
Over and over I have been wondering why the story of the woman with the issue of blood and the story of the dead daughter of a ruler feature as a unit in the synoptic gospels. Since God’s blessings are new to us every morning, I stumbled on the word deadwood and it’s meaning made some sense. It kind of made me see the correlation between the two stories. Apart from deadwood meaning “parts of a tree or branch which is dead,” it also means, “people or things that are no longer useful or productive.”
A woman who had been bleeding for twelve years was actually a deadwood. Society and culture did not consider her useful or productive. She likely could not procreate. She was more or less an outcast; even to her own self.
When she saw Jesus she took a bold step of faith and touched the edge of his cloak as she said to herself, “If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.”
Jesus assured her, “Take heart, daughter, your faith has healed you.” And the woman received instant healing,
This incident happened just a little after a ruler came and knelt before Jesus and said, “My daughter has just died. But come and put your hand on her, and she will live.” That was another leap of faith! Jesus did not hesitate to go with him. When Jesus arrived the place he told the mourners, “…The girl is not dead but asleep.” He then “went in and took the girl by the hand, and she got up” (Mt.9:18-26).
A bold step of faith towards Jesus brings new life to your deadwood conditions. And it is that same faith in Jesus the Christ that will raise you from the dead to live in eternity.
My friend, your health, financial, social, or academic condition may be one in which you are considered a deadwood. Do not despair! Take a bold step of faith towards Jesus, sing your faith through the days of sorrow and all must become well! Dry bones shall live again and deadwood will come alive too! Stretch out your hand of faith and touch Jesus Christ in faith and receive his words of compassion,: “Take heart, my child, your faith has healed you!”
Prayer: Holy Spirit strengthen me as I take a bold step in faith to touch the compassionate heart of Jesus to bring life to my deadwood condition. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
