“The Lord Is Your Portion, Wait For Him!”
The warring atmosphere in the cherished land of my birth is aggravating by seeming geometric proportions. Fear and uncertainty are visible telltale everyehere as the death toll increases. The secured are living in insecurity and there seems to be no safe place anymore.
The desolation is just too visible. The smiles on people’s face are camouflage to cover deep sorrows within. It is a cause for lament!
Israel passed through such phases in her bitter histories. The destruction of Jerusalem, the royal city of the Lord’s kingdom provoked a series of lamentations in 586 BC. These lamentations are ascribed to prophet Jeremiah. The book opens with nostalgia: “How deserted lies the city once full of people…Her foes has become her masters…” It acknowledges that “The Lord has brought her grief because of her many sins, her children have gone into exile, captive before the foe…”(Lam.1:1&5).
Do we see ourselves in similar circumstances?
What we learn here is that the grief upon us is the result of our sins. We are the cause of our problems!
*What is important is that nothing is broken beyond repair. God is still in control! We may have been crushed like a storm in a teacup. We may be lamenting over the ruins and the devastations. We may be grieving for the rising death tolls, *”Yet I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consuned, for his compassion never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, ‘The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him…it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord…For men are not cast off by the Lord forever. Though he brings grief, he will show compassion, so great is his unfailing love. He does not willingly bring affliction or grief to the children of men”*(Lam.3:21-33).
*My friend, your grief may be personal, but we are also in a collective pensive grief. One thing needful: let us go down in genuine repentance to the merciful and compassionate God. His love is unfailing as he has demonstrated with the blood of his Son.*
The storm will soon be over. The Lord has said it and he will do it for you and us. His compassion never fail. They are new every morning. Rise up and grasp it!
Prayer: Lord in your great love and faithfulness renew your compassion on us every morning. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
