“The LORD Is God In Heaven Above And On The Earth Below!”(Dt.4:25-40).
The majority of people who fill the churches come with great expectations. This is particularly so of those who are crisscrossing countries to meet miracle workers and prophets.
It is a good thing to genuinely seek God and, when found, to be in his presence. But when you have been blessed and you start living in sufficiency, do you continue to have a right relationship with God?
Moses prepares us about when good times happen, but he also declares a curse – in case…: ‘After you have had children and grandchildren and have lived in the land a long time – if you then become corrupt and make any kind of idol, doing evil in the eyes of the LORD your God and provoking him to anger, I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you this day that you will quickly perish…”
I once told a neighbour who was trying some hankypanky with our boundary that maybe he is not aware that the soil speaks. These days, people think that logic, power of oratory, and manipulation can allow them to have their way to their gain at the loss of others. This is especially so when there is nobody to stand as a witness. Sad to say that while earthly justice relies on human witnesses, divine justice has two unshakeable witnesses who are eyewitnesses in all corners of the world. Heaven and earth are two unshakeable witnesses who can neither be bought nor manipulated!
These are the witnesses that Moses relied on when he was warning us of the dangers of falling away from the LORD’S presence.
Good news to us all: The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases, and his mercies never come to an end. His compassion knows no bounds. If from our place of punishment we “seek the LORD our God, we will find him; if we look for him with all our heart and with all our soul. When we return and obey the LORD our God, he will not abandon or destroy us or forget his covenant promise.
Dear friend, let us “acknowledge and take to heart this day that the LORD is God in heaven above and on earth below.” If we keep his commands and accept his Son Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, it will go well with us and our children.
Sunday prayer: Holy Spirit, guide our steps daily so that we should not become corrupt and abandon our Saviour. Lord Jesus Christ, we acknowledge you for being the continuing grace of God for our salvation. Amen!
Have a blessed Sunday! Peace be with you!
