“The LORD – He Is God!”

“The LORD – He Is God!”(I Kgs.18:20-40&36-39).
When a king allows himself to be manipulated by a vicious foreign wife, the outcome is national idolatory and God’s wrath upon the nation.
This is how Jezebel manipulated King Ahab to plunge Israel into the worship of Baal!
Elijah, a sentinel that the LORD had placed on the ramparts of the city had to put a stop to this calamity by calling the prophets of Baal to a contest with himself as the only prophet of God alive.
It was not just a contest of men but a contest of Yahweh and Baal. The contest was to prepare a sacrificial animal, place it on wood, call on his God to come, and consume the sacrifice with the prophets lighting the fire.
The prophets of Baal did so and called on the name of Baal from morning till noon. But there was no response.
When it was Elijah’s turn, he called on the LORD in prayer. “Then the fire of the LORD fell and burned up the sacrifice, the wood, the stones and the soil…”
“When all the people saw this, they fell prostrate and cried, ‘The LORD – he is God! The LORD – he is God!'”
Yes, the LORD – he is God!
Who is like unto thee, O LORD? There is none! In Elijah’s prayer he said, “…Answer me, O LORD, answer me, so these people will know that you, O LORD, are God, and that you are turning their hearts back again.”
The other day, we stencilled the gods we inadvertently serve through apostacy. My friend, if you have been an apostate, then today, the LORD is turning your heart back again.
A message to the king: Beware the manipulation of your Jezebel foreign queen! She will use you to plunge your nation into idolatory!
To all of us, throw away the foreign gods and return to the LORD who has poured his grace on us through Christ!
Prayer: LORD, we come to you with contrite and repentant hearts. Receive us with your arms of love. Amen!
