“The Light Has Come, Do Not Walk In Darkness!”
Human beings are fallible, limited, mortal, finite and imperfect; meanwhile God is infallible, unlimited, immortal, infinite and perfect. He is all-knowing and all-seeing. He is a God far off but also a God nearby. Only one person who walked the earth is the same with God.
He speaks to us in human language about earthly things with which we are familiar. If we cannot understand him, we cannot be able to understand heavenly things.
If we cannot believe his earthly explanations, it would be worse to believe heavenly explanations.
Jesus comes to earth as the incarnation of light, peace and love. These three are complementary.
Our focus is on light which is concomitant to peace and love. When light suddenly returns after a blackout in the night one hears resounding shouts of jubilation in and around the neighbourhood. This shows how frightening and despicable darkness can be.
God sent Jesus into the world because he loved the world. Jesus came to radiate the love and light of God in a world that was wallowing in hate and darkness! Jesus comes for all humanity and salvation is open to everybody, but to be saved for eternal life is a choice to be made by you!
Whoever believes in Jesus is saved, but whoever does not believe stands condemned. The verdict is clear: “light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds are evil.”(Jn. 3:11-21).
At one point I find it difficult to pronounce “Merry” or “Happy” Christmas. I ask myself what we should be happy or be merry about with the devastation in the North West and South West regions of the homeland?
The number of burnt villages – and it is on the rise – the abandonment of towns and villages, the bullet holes on all roadside houses in most towns and villages, the hundreds of thousands of internally displaced persons and the tens of thousands of refugees are evidences that men love darkness because their deeds are evil!
The joyful comments people make over the ever increasing death toll are scary and is surely the works of darkness!
Our mockers seem to enjoy their day as they ask, “Where is the God that you are serving?”
Of course, he is still on the throne! He has not abandoned us! “The grace of God that brings salvation has appeared. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives…”(Ti. 2:11-13).
My friend, peace is a precious commodity which we need to pursue at all cost! This means that we move away from the darkness of injustice, favouritism, nepotism, tribalism and all the other “isms” that keep us in the bondage of Satan!
Move into the light of Christ where there is justice and peace and where genuine love reigns supreme!
Through Christ God has established his dwelling place in our midst, and he says he will be our God and we his people!
We need peace! We need justice! To achieve this we must walk in love; moving away from darkness and walking in the light!
Our response to this Christmas is to:
Stop the bloodshed!
Stop the burning of houses!
Stop the loothings!
Stop the kidnappings!
Stop the war and embrace peace through the exercise of justice!
Merry Christmas!
