“The Humility Of God!” (Is.1:18-20).
The grassfield artist wonders in song: “Pikin di cry o, instead for papa for askam say, ‘Na weti you di cry?’ Pikin di cry, papa di vex o, Africa na wusai we di go?…” – (The child is crying, instead of the father asking, ‘Why are you crying?’ The child is crying, the father is angry. Africa where are we heading to?)
This is the reason for all the meaningless internecine wars on the continent. The high-handedness and arrogance of leaders pushes frustrations beyond the limits of patience, which leads to crossing the boarders of no-return.
We wait until when thousands of lives are lost, when thousands become displaced and when thousands become refugees before we agree to sit at table to negotiate. Even when we agree to negotiate, we are bent on cosmetic solutions which can never be carved on stone. Negotiation is about concessions and compromises. It is about give and take and requires goodwill and humility of heart from both sides.
*When we decide to negotiate, we are merely replicating what the Lord of all creation has been doing with humanity.
Notwithstanding the fact that our wrongdoings have clothed us like a detestable garment, the Lord still humbles himself to beckon us: *”Come now, let us reason together. Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be like wool…”*
God has not only said it, he did it. He is not only calling us to the negotiating table, he already made a compromise and decided to be a loser for our sake. He sacrificed his dear Son. This is how deep God’s forgiveness is; in negotiating he gave the best of his possession because of the love he has for us.
However, we must be ready to make concessions if we have to enjoy the benefits of God’s offer. “‘If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the best from the land; but if you resist and rebel, you will be devoured by his sword.’ For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”
My friend, if we want to enjoy the best from the land we must be willing and obedient to God’s call to come reason together with him, so that he can cleanse the blood stains with the blood of the Lamb.
Prayer of the week: Holy Spirit help me to be willing and obedient to the Lord who cleanses me with the blood of Jesus. Amen!
Welcome back to a new working week! Have a blessed day and week! Peace be with you!
