“The Fulfilment Of God’s Promise!”(Heb.11:32-40).
“And what more shall I say? I do not have time to tell about Gideon, Barak, Samson and Jephthah, about David and Samuel and the prophets, who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions, quenched the fury of the flames, and escaped the edge of the sword; whose weakness was turned to strength; and who became powerful in battle and routed foreign armies. Women received back their dead, raised to life again. There were others who were tortured, refusing to be released so that they might gain an even better resurrection. Some faced jeers and flogging, and even chains and imprisonment. They were put to death by stoning; they were sawed in two; they were killed by the sword. They went about in sheepskins and goatskins, destitute, persecuted and mistreated— the world was not worthy of them. They wandered in deserts and mountains, living in caves and in holes in the ground. These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised, since God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect.”
Those who have come after Christ are a prized generation. All the fathers and mothers of faith who came before Christ were commended for their faith, but they did not have Christ.
Christ is what makes us perfect because by ourselves, we are imperfect beings.
The fulfilment for those before Christ and us is in Christ who is the resurrection and the life.
All the people of faith who had gone before built their faith on the promises of God. But they did not live to see the fulfilment of those promises. Christ is the fulfilment. Their redemption and ours are now made complete in Christ.
We have to rejoice because we are the blessed generation who are the fulfilment of the promises that those people of the past only hoped for.
Our faith is built in Christ and requires that we believe Christ and be obediently submissive to the will of God through Christ.
The continues by telling us to lay aside every weight and sin which clings so closely; and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith(Heb.12:1-2b).
Prayer: Holy Spirit, guide us as we study the word for innerstanding. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
