“The Continuing Gospel…!”(Mt.4:12-17).
The prophetic agenda of God cannot be stifled or stopped in any way. To scare, challenge or bully a messenger of God into silence, to arrest and detain, or even kill him cannot stop God’s kingdom agenda.
A prophet may seem to be alone, but stopping him by any means does not stop the plan of him who sent the prophet.
There is continuity in God’s plan of salvation.
Imagine that Jesus began his ministry only as soon as “he heard that John had been put in prison…From that time on Jesus began to preach, ‘Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.'” These were also the introductory message of John, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near”(Mt.3:2). The first time the gospel was preached on Pentecost as Peter addressed the crowd, he told them, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit”(Atcs 2:38).
Dear friend, this core message of the Gospel – the call to repentance – has not changed and does not change.
Messengers of the gospel should not bypass this core message when they are sent to call lost. The presence of the Saviour is meaningless if the people are not called to repentance. Whatever messengers say in the body of their scripts is intended to lead to a conclusion that is relevant to the thesis.
And the message is, Repent, for the kingdom of God is here. Believe and obey the Lord Jesus Christ through whom salvation is made available.
To you and I comes the assurance of God to repented souls: Receive the Holy Spirit and pray that the LORD should not take him away from you. And in the LORD’S mercy and compassion he will continue to make his face shine on you and give you his peace that knows no ending. Cultivate the habit of living purposefully in obedience to his commands.
Weekend prayer: Thank you Lord Jesus Christ for being the light for us who were in darkness. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
Rev Babila Fochang.
