“…Test The Spirits To See Whether They Are From God…!”
The Rev Jim Jones was the founder of a Christian cult called the Peoples Temple. On November 18, 1978 by the direction of Jim Jones about 900 of it members were given poison which they drank and all died, including children.
Not too long ago in Uganda members of a doomsdsy cult were gathered in one house and burned alive. They were more than 200 of them. In both stories above their leaders claimed that their salvation was in heaven.
You are not going to suddenly become rich tomorrow because somebody has written a nonsense on social media and ask you to type Amen, or that share to seven people otherwise God will punish you!
We have also been negligent of spiritual healing and Africans are ready to do anything to become well. In a southern African country a popular Christian healer claimed to have made about 20000 women fertile in just one year. When preasure was mounted on him with accusations of sleeping with the women, he exchanged his pastoral robe for a traditional healer’s garment. He went to a small village and continued his work of healing this time as a native doctor. No doubt somebody hwith as sais there is no difference between “Papa” – man of God and “Baba” – native doctor.
The stories abound. We are in no position to judge anybody but it is said Caveat Emptor – let the buyer beware! When we fall victim we shouldn’t blame anyone. The truth is in the word of God.
John writes, “Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world…” If any spirit acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh, then it is from God, “but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world…”
But you my friend, you are an overcomer “because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world…We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us, but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognise the Spirit of truth and the spirit of falsehood”(I Jn.4:1-6).
My friend, pray for the Spirit of discernment so that you do not become prey to the spirit of falsehood and deception.
Sunday prayer: Holy Spirit lead me to recognise the Spirit of God and not fall prey to the spirit of falsehood and deception. Amen!
Have a blessed Sunday! Peace be with you!
