“Strive To Have A Closer Walk With Jesus Christ!”
Last evening at a wake service I listened to an erudite preacher. His message sparked me in the innerman. The centrality of his message was whether there is still a good person in this cacophony of intrigues, perpetuation of evils and paybacks – even by so called good people.
It is in this kind of context of persistent evil that Paul reiterates, “Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realise that Christ Jesus is in you – unless, of course you fail the test…”
My friend, this is the crux of the matter. It is easy to prepare for an examination, cram, and pour the stuff then pass with shiny colours. The question is can you remember the stuff soon after the examination? The common parlance is “cram, pour and forget.”
It is said that true knowledge is what remains after what was learned has been forgotten. It is the same with faith! You do not have to go back to your notes to crosscheck issues of your faith. It has to be embedded in you!
My friend, examine yourself to see if you are in the faith, test yourself. Being in the faith is not a show of strength. It is to follow the example of Christ who “was crucified in weakness, yet he lives by God’s power.” Likewise “we are weak in him, yet by God’s power we will live with him to serve you”(II Cor.13:3-6).
The prophet of old said it that it is neither by might nor by power but simply by the Spirit of God that you can move mountains.
Like the pastor asked at the wake service, “Are you a good wo/man?” Nobody but you has to answer that question for yourself and it starts by examining yourself to see whether you are in the faith. Yes, test yourself to see if Christ is in you.
Weekend prayer: Lord I know I am weak, but by your power I will live in Christ. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
