“Spread The Good News Wherever And Whenever!”(Acts 13:13-25).
I will declare the goodness of the LORD all the days of my life!
For quite some time, some missionaries tried to convert an old African to no avail. One day, one of the missionaries was reading the genealogy of Jesus in the old man’s presence
As soon as the old man heard the genealogy of Jesus, he said, “Why didn’t you tell me before now that Jesus had ancestors? Now that I know that he had ancestors, I’ll receive the baptism.”
One’s ancestry constitutes one’s identity. Your genealogy defines you.
In Pisidian Antioch Paul and his companions entered the synagogue. “After reading from the Law and the Prophets, the leaders of the synagogue sent to them, saying, ‘Brothers, if you have a word of exhortation for the people, please speak.’ Paul got up and addressed them how the God of Israel chose their ancestors and made them prosperous during their stay in Egypt. From here on, Paul gave a summary of Israel’s history to the time of David. He then continued, God made David king and testified concerning him, “‘l have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.’ From this man’s descendants, God has brought to Israel the Saviour Jesus, as he promised. Before the coming of Jesus, John preached repentance and baptism to all the people of Israel. As John was completing his work, he said: ‘Who do you suppose I am? I am not the one you are looking for. But there is one coming after me whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.’”
Jesus may have been the Son of God, but he was rooted in ancestry. Whoever has no past suffers from amnesia.
Jesus is the fulfilment of a promise to the ancestors: “The oath which swore to our father Abraham that he will grant unto us…”
Apart from Jesus’ ancestry serving as a testimony of fulfilment, there was also the testimony of John as a herald and pathfinder.
The people who, like Simeon in the temple, had been waiting for the salvation of Israel, confused John for the Messiah. John maintained his messenger status by saying, “I am not that one. No, but he is coming after me, whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.”
Paul went on to talk about the rejection, crucifixion, death, and resurrection of Jesus, the Christ.
I just listened to this guy who said the Bible teaches people to believe and obey, but not to understand. If the Bible is actually such a tool of brainwashing, how successful and enlightened are those who have not been brainwashed by the Bible? There is no doubt that warped up minds do use the Bible compromisingly, but such are exceptions and not the rule!
In this pericope three testimonies are given: the fulfilment of ancestral promise by God, the testimony and confession of John the Baptist, and the testimony of Paul who was among the staunch persecutors of the early believers.
The apostles and early disciples did not sacrifice their lives for what they were not sure about.
We have heard, and we believe it to be true that love came down to us and a judge will come to reward us according to what we believe and how we lived what we believe.
Prayer: Holy Spirit, help me daily to testify of the Savior in thought, word, and deed. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
