“Sing Praises To The LORD Most High!”(Lk.1:46-56).
It’s another day in which God’s grace has found us. Today we reflect on Mary’s with response to good news with a joyous song of praise. After her conversation with Elisabeth, Mary offered that kind of song of joyful praise to God.
Cameroonians fondly remember the slogan, “You do not change a winning team.” It doesn’t matter if Mary’s song of praise is an edited rendition of Hannah’s song when God blessed her with the son she named Samuel(I Sam.2:1-10). What matters is the importance of praise when God uses us for his purpose. By the way, Hannah too was like Mary and Elisabeth. She too was a barren womb until the LORD heard her cry of anguish and gave her Samuel.
Mary said, “My heart praises the Lord, my soul is glad because of God my Saviour, for he has remembered me, his lowly servant… From one generation to another he shows mercy to those who honour him…”
My friend, God remembered Mary and elevated her, he will remember you too. However, one thing is needful: In as much as it is God who makes the plants to grow, the farmer has to cultivate the land and sow the seeds. A good yield would also depend on the choice of fertile land. But the growth is the work of God. In the same way, God shows mercy to those who honour him.
Therefore, in your generation honour the Lord to be shown mercy. And when God shows you mercy, let your heart praise the Lord and let your soul rejoice that the Lord has remembered you.
His promises never fail. Blessed are those who fear the LORD and “find joy in obeying the Law of the LORD, and they study it day and night. They are like trees that grow beside a stream, that bear fruit at the right time, and whose leaves do not dry up…”(Ps.1:2ff).
Prayer: We praise you LORD because in our generation you have shown us mercy in Jesus Christ our Redeemer. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
